Aga Khan Centre and Islamic Gardens Tour

A guided tour of the AGA KHan Centre and its Islamic Gardens, London – exclusively for RSAA members and guests.

11 June 2026 12:00 BST In Person

The Aga Khan Centre, designed by Fumihiko Maki, is a striking contemporary space that embodies openness, dialogue and respect for pluralism. Created as a hub for education and cultural exchange, it serves as the UK home for institutions founded by Aga Khan IV. Its pale limestone exterior echoes London’s historic architecture while contrasting with the industrial character of King’s Cross, and its sculptural form is softened by intricate geometric glass patterns that filter light and cast shifting shadows throughout the building.

Organised around a luminous central atrium inspired by traditional Islamic courtyards, the Centre unfolds vertically into a series of gardens, terraces and intimate outdoor spaces. These landscapes reflect the diversity of Islamic garden design – from symmetrical layouts and geometric motifs to tranquil, contemplative corners – culminating in a rooftop garden inspired by the domes of the Shah Mosque, Esfahan. Together, these elements create a seamless journey through architecture, light and nature, offering visitors both a place of reflection and a living expression of global Muslim cultures.

The tour will last just over an hour and includes some walking, with parts of the tour taking place outdoors (weather permitting). To attend, please sign up using the form below. Places are limited.

Aga Khan Centre, 10 Handyside St, London, N1C 4DN.
