14 March 2024 – Black Ghosts: A Journey into the Lives of Africans in China

Noo Saro-Wiwa is a travel writer and journalist raised in Nigeria and the UK. Her first book, Looking for Transwonderland: Travels in Nigeria, was selected as BBC Radio 4’s Book of the Week and was named the Sunday Times Travel Book of the Year 2012. Condé Nast Traveler Magazine named Noo one of The World’s 30 Most Influential Female Travellers. On 14 March 2024, Noo will be talking to the RSAA Reading Room about Black Ghosts: A Journey into the Lives of Africans in China, published in autumn 2023. Described by Paul Theroux as “a marvellous yet unlikely book”, Black Ghosts is Noo’s travel memoir, but also paints portraits of African economic migrants in China, from a cardiac surgeon to a drug dealer, and their lives at the intersection of cultures.
