Dr Shirley Yu is an affiliate of the Lau China Institute. She earned her PhD in political economy from China’s Peking University, and a master’s degree from Harvard University. She is the Chief Strategic Officer/Vice President of New York Stock Exchange-listed Xin Yuan Group Co Ltd (NYSE: XIN).
Shirley began her career in investment banking with Merrill Lynch. She subsequently returned to China as a news anchor on CCTV (China Central Television) News. She has been a frequent speaker and moderator of dialogues with global icons, including Alan Greenspan, Larry Summers, former Prime Ministers David Cameron, Bob Hawke and Paul Keating, and Forbe’s Steve Forbes.
Through her own advisory firm, Shirley has also been an advisor to cross-border M&A investments to companies including China’s Legend Holdings, Poly Group, HNA Group, UK-based public companies, Australia-based mining and agricultural interests, as well as US-based private equity firms.
Shirley is also the author of three books in Chinese, 无欲自芳菲 (Fearless Pursuit) and 百国大使谈中国 (On China, by Ambassadors), and the most recently released 人民币崛起及日元之殇 (The Rise of the RMB and the Fall of the Yen).
