Political Quietism in Islamic Societies: a Neglected Tradition


Dr Saud Al-Sarhan delivers the Hugh Leach Memorial Lecture for 2020, 16 December, 14:00

Dr. Saud Al-Sarhan has been the Secretary-General of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies since 2016. In 2019 he published  Political Quietism in Islam:  Sunni and Shi’i Practice and Thought.

He is a member of the Board of Prince Saud Al-Faisal Institute of Diplomatic Studies at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs; of the Advisory Council for Countering Terrorism and Extremism Program of the Middle East Institute (Washington DC); and of the editorial board of the Asian Journal of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies.

He is also an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the College of Social Sciences and International Studies, University of Exeter; a Distinguished International Affairs Fellow at the National Council on US-Arab Relations; and an Associate Fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, King’s College London.

He received his PhD from College of Social Sciences and International Studies, University of Exeter.
