Asia’s Newest Flashpoint? The China-India Line of Actual Control – Michael Kugelman

A long, tense, and deadly border spat in the region of Ladakh has plunged India-China relations to their lowest point in decades. Michael Kugelman will explain what may have caused the current border crisis, consider possible endgames, and discuss the implications of the crisis for the bilateral relationship and regional and global geopolitics.

Michael Kugelman¬†is Asia Program deputy director and senior associate for South Asia at the Woodrow Wilson Center. He is responsible for research, programming, and publications on South Asia. His specialty areas include Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and U.S. relations with each of them. His recent projects have focused on India’s foreign policy, U.S.-India relations, India-Pakistan relations, the war in Afghanistan, and U.S. policy in South Asia. He is a regular contributor to publications that include Foreign Policy, The National Interest, and CNN.com.

In January 2019 Michael co-hosted the joint RSAA/Wilson Center conference on China’s Belt and Road Initiative.¬† (Recordings of the whole event are on the RSAA YouTube Channel.)
